The news out of Crunchyroll
Crunchyroll has picked up "Assassination Classroom the Movie: Our Time" and added it to its library. The film goes up with both a subtitled version and a dubbed version, and both become available starting Thursday. If you have followed the franchise before, the property needs little introduction: it began as Yusei Matsui's manga and was later adapted into a television anime that ran across two seasons.
It is a straightforward addition for subscribers, and it is worth being clear about where it lands. This is a Crunchyroll addition, behind the platform's subscription. Here is what that means for anyone hoping to catch up without paying.
What you can honestly watch free here
Let us be straight with you: Assassination Classroom is not free to watch in English on AnimeSphere. Our catalogue does surface one episode that looks free at a glance, and it is easy to be misled by it. That first-episode upload is actually a Crunchyroll Brasil release, a Portuguese dub. Its region list technically includes the United States, so it shows up for US visitors, but the audio is Portuguese, not English. The other option in our catalogue is a Muse Asia stream that is region-locked to South Asia (Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, and Nepal), so it will not play for a US viewer at all.
Add it up and, for an English-speaking viewer in the US, the honest free-episode count for the series is zero. The films, "Our Time" included, and the second season likewise have no free episodes here. If you want it in your own language, the paid Crunchyroll release is the route.
A free pick with the same classroom energy
If the appeal of Assassination Classroom is the noisy, oddball-ensemble class dynamic more than Koro-sensei specifically, there is something you can start right now for free. High School! Kimengumi is streaming free on AnimeSphere, 31 episodes, covering episodes 1 through 31. It runs in Japanese with an official English subtitle track (subtitles, to be clear, not an English dub), served from the "It's Anime" channel and viewable in the US.
It is a classic high-school gag comedy built around a class full of eccentric misfits, and that chaotic-classroom spirit is exactly the register Class 3-E fans tend to enjoy. It is a different vintage and a different tone, but the ensemble-of-weirdos formula is one this genre has been refining for decades.
