The 2026 Crayon Shin-chan Film Breaks the Franchise Box Office Record; No Shin-chan Entry Holds a Free Episode Here
On our family life shelf, 31 of 566 entries state free episodes, and two of them account for 217 of the 402: short Atashin'chi stories and a Spanish-language Heidi. Here are three to start with English subtitles or a dub.

The newest Crayon Shin-chan film now holds the franchise's box office record. As reported by Anime News Network, the film's official website said on Monday that its takings in Japan have passed 2.7 billion yen, roughly US$17 million, more than any Shin-chan film before it. Its director, Masaki Watanabe, drew an illustration to mark the figure. The film reached Japanese cinemas on 31 July and placed third on its first weekend, taking 539,371,500 yen from 441,000 tickets over its opening three days.
Shin-chan has nothing free here. Our index holds 41 entries carrying the Shin-chan name, including the television series, which began in 1992 and still airs, and none of their pages states a free episode. The new film is listed under its Japanese title, Crayon Shin-chan: Kikikaikai! Ora no Youkai Vacation, and its page states no free episode count.
The family life shelf
The television series carries our family life tag, scored 90 out of 100 for relevance. That tag sits on 566 entries. Of those, 31 state a free episode count, together 402 free episodes, and 19 of the 31 state exactly one. Ten of the 566 are Shin-chan entries, none with a count. Several well-known entries tagged at 80 or higher state no free episode either: SPY x FAMILY, Clannad: After Story, TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You, the 2019 Fruits Basket and the 1988 film My Neighbor Totoro.
Two entries hold 217 of the 402 free episodes
Of the 402, Atashin'chi accounts for 168 and Heidi, Girl of the Alps for 49.
Atashin'chi is a 2002 television series, recorded at 330 episodes of 25 minutes. Its page states 168 free with a note of Japanese audio. Seven of its episode pages, spread across the run, play uploads from the series' official, verified YouTube channel, each with an English subtitle track. Those uploads run about seven to eight minutes each: short individual stories, not whole episodes. The numbers in their titles do not match ours, so start from the Atashin'chi page.
Heidi, Girl of the Alps is a 1974 television series of 52 episodes, and its page states 49 free. Seven of its episode pages, spread across the run, play uploads from a verified channel, titled in Spanish, and what they play is the series in Spanish.
Two card-battle television series account for 64 more episodes. A 2026 web series, mofusand, accounts for 30, with a recorded episode length of one minute. The remaining 26 entries share 91.
Three to start with English subtitles or a dub
Every upload below lists the United States as an allowed country.
- Mom, I'm Sorry is a web series of 18 episodes, and all 18 are free here. Each is a whole episode from a verified channel with an English subtitle track.
- Please Excuse My Younger Brothers, a 2026 television series, has episodes 1, 2 and 3 free, three of its 24. Each is a whole episode with Japanese audio and an English subtitle track.
- Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid, from 2017, has only episode 1 free, one of its 13. It is a whole episode, in the English dub.
Of the three, only Mom, I'm Sorry can be followed to its last episode here. For Shin-chan, the answer today is nothing.
