Crunchyroll Subtracts, OceanVeil Adds, and We Have None of the Fourteen Free

Two catalogue reports, one day

Anime News Network filed two stories on 23 July 2026 that are more useful read together than apart. The first reports that Crunchyroll is delisting a group of series; among the titles named are Barakamon, Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions and Black Lagoon, and the report indicates the removals reach further than the names it prints. The second reports that OceanVeil added a group of series the same day, including Yuru Yuri, HaNaYaMaTa, Level E and Love Hina.

No removal date was given, and no reason. We are not going to supply either.

What the delisting report shows is something back-catalogue viewers tend to learn the hard way: a licensed catalogue is a lease, not a shelf. Titles arrive, titles leave, and the pile of things you meant to get to is quietly revalued every time.

We cannot replace any of them

Here is the part that matters for anyone hoping we could patch the hole. We checked every one of the fourteen series named across both reports against our own database on 24 July, record by record, including every season, OVA and film entry we hold. The number of free episodes on AnimeSphere is zero for all of them.

That is not a near miss. Blood Blockade Battlefront sits in our database under four separate entries, Orange under twelve, Yuru Yuri seven, Love Hina five, Nyarko-san five, Black Lagoon four, and across all of those records the free-episode count is zero. The two single-entry titles, Level E and HaNaYaMaTa, return the same answer. Two of the shows, As the Gods Will and Bombshells from the Sky, are not in our catalogue in any form. If one of the departing series was on your list, we have nothing to put in its place, and saying otherwise would only waste your evening.

What we do have, and why it sits differently

What we can point at is a small group of series published free on a rights-holder's own official channel, Anime! on TMS Official Channel, rather than licensed out to a third party. That is not a promise of permanence. It is a materially different arrangement from a licence with a term attached to it, and that difference is worth understanding before you build a watchlist around anything.

Sherlock Hound is complete there, all 26 of its 26 episodes, English dubbed. Yowamushi Pedal is also complete, 38 of 38, English subtitled. Cat's Eye runs to 36 episodes, of which 33 carry English subtitles; the first three are raw Japanese uploads with no subtitle track, so 33 is the honest figure for an English-speaking viewer, not 36. All three are reachable from the US, and we checked individual episodes across each run, including the last one, rather than trusting a playlist count.

None of that substitutes for a series you were part-way through. It is simply what we can stand behind today.
