The Hunter x Hunter Manga Stops Again. We Hold 222 Series Whose Endings Went Straight to Video
Not one of the 228 OVA continuations those 222 series point to states a single free episode. Of the 95 episodes the parent series do state, 50 will not play from a United States request and 26 belong to another entry.

The Hunter x Hunter manga is pausing again with no return date, and a fourth stage play is booked for Tokyo and Kyoto in 2027, drawn from the Chimera Ant arc, according to Anime News Network.
We hold Hunter x Hunter (1999) as a television series of 62 episodes. The sequel we record for it is not another television season. It is Hunter x Hunter: Yorknew City, an OVA of 8 episodes from 2002. We also hold Greed Island (2003) and Greed Island Final (2004), both OVAs. The 148 episode 2011 series is recorded as an alternative version, not a sequel.
The 222 series in the same position
We took every television entry with a recorded sequel, resolved those sequels to formats, and kept the ones where all resolved, at least one is an OVA and none is a television series. That gives 222 entries pointing to 228 OVA sequels, with 28 set aside because a sequel would not resolve.
All 222 parent pages and all 228 OVA pages were read twice today. All 900 reads returned HTTP 200, and no count or note changed between passes. Eight of the 222 parents state a free count, 95 episodes between them. Not one of the 228 OVA sequels states a single free episode.
Every Hunter x Hunter page was read the same way. The 1999 series states none, and neither do the 2011 series, Yorknew City, either Greed Island, Phantom Rouge or the pilot OVA. The 2013 film The Last Mission states one free episode, with the note "Japanese audio".
The 95 is smaller than it looks
Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, a 2006 series we record at 50 episodes, states 50 free, every row from "Anime! on TMS Official Channel". We opened episodes 1, 25 and 50: all three resolved there, titles matching our numbers, and all three report as unplayable from a United States request.
Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac, recorded at 114 episodes, states 26 free. We opened two, and both are uploads of Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas. The numbering there is also inconsistent: the uploads titled "EP01" and "EP26" are each filed as episode 1 and again as 26. So 50 of the 95 will not play from a United States request and 26 belong to another entry, leaving 19 across six entries. Five of the six state one episode:
- VS Knight Lamune & 40 Fire (1996)
- Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid (2017)
- The Ancient Magus' Bride (2017)
- Recovery of an MMO Junkie (2017)
- That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (2018)
The one we opened that holds up
Space Adventure Cobra, a 1982 series with 31 episodes recorded, states 14 free. We hold 14 rows, episodes 1 through 14, one upload each, all from that same TMS channel, titled "EP01" through "EP14" in order. We opened episodes 1, 7 and 14: all three playable from a United States request, each running 1,488 seconds against a recorded 24 minutes. Each exposes only an automatic Japanese caption track, generated from the soundtrack, so the audio is Japanese, and the channel's own upload titles label them "English Sub". Fourteen of 31 stops short of halfway, and the OVA we record as its sequel, COBRA THE ANIMATION: The Psycho-Gun, states none.
