Maria†Holic returns after twelve years, and none of it is free here
AniList records how central a tag is to a show. We used that to ask whether the anime actually built on crossdressing are any easier to watch free than the ones that merely touch it.

A new Maria†Holic series is on the way, twelve years after the last one, and the new story opens a year after the point where the earlier one finished. Anime News Network reported the sequel. Our index holds four entries under the Maria†Holic name: the 2009 television series with twelve episodes recorded, Maria†Holic Alive from 2011, a music entry and a special. All four pages state no free episode count. We hold nothing of it free. We file the 2009 series under a single genre, Comedy.
What the tag rank measures
AniList attaches descriptive tags to entries, and every tag carries a rank from 1 to 100 saying how central that idea is to that particular show. A rank near the top means the idea sits close to the premise. A low rank means it is a detail. Maria†Holic carries the tag Crossdressing at rank 88.
That tag sits on 363 of our 20,498 entries, and that set of 363 is the shelf worth looking at today. Sixteen of them state a free episode count, and between those sixteen pages the site states 148 free episodes. Four of them state a single free episode. The shelf is thin before you divide it at all.
The split at rank 60
The rank makes it possible to ask whether the shows built on an idea turn up free more often than the ones that merely touch it. Of the 363, 143 carry Crossdressing at rank 60 or higher and 220 carry it lower. Of the 143, nine state a free count, covering 81 episodes. Of the 220, seven do, covering 67 episodes.
That works out to roughly six in every hundred against roughly three in every hundred. The higher ranked half is ahead, at about double the rate. It is also a small difference between two small numbers, and in both halves the large majority of pages state nothing free at all.
Three complete runs
Three entries on this shelf are complete, meaning the page states a free count matching every episode we have recorded.
- Lady Oscar: The Rose of Versailles, the 1979 television series, all 40 episodes, the largest free count anywhere on this shelf. Japanese audio with English subtitles burned into the picture, not an English dub. On Anime! on TMS Official Channel, which carries a YouTube verified badge, with the United States on the country allow-list. Tag rank 88.
- Magic User's Club!, the 1996 OVA series, all six episodes, about 28 minutes each, on Nozomi Entertainment, which does not carry a verified badge. Every episode is posted twice, once labelled Sub and once Dub; the Sub uploads carry English subtitles. Episodes one and two are limited to Canada and the United States, and episodes three to six carry no country restriction. Tag rank 70.
- Cybersix, the 1999 television series, all 13 episodes. Tag rank 86.
Across all three, every upload title carries the same episode number we store against it, no video is filed against two episode numbers, and none is filed under two series.
