A New Minky Momo OVA Arrives November 13. Two Episodes of the Franchise Are Free Here. Both in Japanese
The 1982 magical-girl landmark is getting a new OVA with Kurumi Haruki voicing Momo, but the streamable back catalogue is thinner, and less subtitled, than the news suggests.

A new *Fairy Princess Minky Momo* OVA has been dated for November 13, with Kurumi Haruki cast in the title role. The cast, a key visual and a promotional video all landed alongside the date; Anime News Network has the announcement details.
The reflex when a 1982 property comes back is to go looking for the original. So let me answer that first, because the answer is short and it is not the one most readers are hoping for.
The franchise is two shows, and that matters
Minky Momo is not one continuity with a long run. It is two separate television series with two different Momos. The 1982 original is listed at 63 episodes and credited to Ashi Productions. The 1991 series carries its own subtitle, *Yume o Dakishimete*, "Hold On to Your Dreams", and runs 62 episodes. They are catalogued as distinct works because they are distinct works, not seasons of the same one.
What holds them together is the transformation logic, and it is a genuinely unusual piece of design. Most magical-girl systems scale power: the heroine transforms and becomes stronger. Momo's transformation scales *age and competence*. She becomes an adult version of whichever profession the situation in front of her calls for. The magic does not solve the problem; it grants the qualifications to solve the problem. That is a structural constraint, not a power fantasy, and it forces the writing into episodic problem-of-the-week shapes that a combat system never would. Forty-four years on, it still reads as a deliberate choice rather than a period quirk.
What is actually free on AnimeSphere right now
Ashi Production maintains its own YouTube channel (葦プロダクション チャンネル), and has posted the first episode of each series there as an official upload, tagged 公式配信. That is what we carry, and the count is exact: **episode 1 of the 1982 series, and episode 1 of the 1991 series.** Nothing else from either run is free here.
Now the part that decides whether you should bother tonight. Both uploads are Japanese-language. We checked the live caption tracks today, and the only subtitles present on either episode are Japanese auto-generated ones. There is no official English subtitle track on either. If you press play expecting English subs, you will not find them.
So who is this for
If you read Japanese, or you are content to watch a premiere for the direction and the 1982 palette without following dialogue, two episodes is a fair sampler. You get both entry points, nine years apart, and the contrast between them is the clearest way to see what the 1991 revival kept and what it rebuilt.
If you need English, this is not the night. And the new OVA is not an option either: it is not out. November 13 is a release date, not a stream.
I would rather send you away with an accurate no than pad this out. When more of Minky Momo becomes legally free, subtitled or otherwise, we will say so here.
