The season opens with the tension of a fight card: classes sizing each other up, alliances forming in hallways, everyone waiting to see who swings first. That's the trick of Classroom of the Elite — nobody throws a real punch, but the 2022 second season moves with the rhythm of a tournament arc. Tests are bouts. Information is footwork. And Ayanokoji, the deliberately unremarkable protagonist, fights like a counterpuncher who only reveals his reach when the round is already decided.

What makes these thirteen episodes work is readability. A lot of mind-game anime cheat — the twist arrives and you're told it was clever. Here, the show lays its pieces on the board early enough that the reversals feel earned, and the pacing knows exactly when to sit in dread and when to snap the trap shut. The class-versus-class stakes escalate cleanly, and the supporting cast gets sharper edges than the first season allowed, particularly the rivals who refuse to play by Ayanokoji's tempo.

One honest gripe: the protagonist's near-total unflappability occasionally flattens the stakes. When the audience never believes he can lose, the drama has to come entirely from how he wins, and a few mid-season stretches coast on that formula.
