Tomodachi Game Review — Friendship as a Weapon, Debt as a Timer

The moment the money goes missing, the room changes temperature. Five friends who would swear they trust each other completely are suddenly staring at four suspects, and Tomodachi Game wants you to feel that shift in your gut before it explains a single rule. That opening gambit is the show's whole engine: a debt-repayment game where the only winning move is to sell out someone you love, and the only losing move is to believe nobody would.

As a battle series with no punches, it moves like one. Each of the 12 episodes ends on a reversal, and protagonist Yuuichi is the rare mind-game lead who goes on offense early instead of reacting for half a season. Watching him weaponize his own reputation for niceness gives the games actual fight choreography — feints, counters, a finisher you should have seen coming. The pacing is genuinely relentless; there is no filler arc, no breather episode, just escalation.

The honest catch: the games themselves are only as airtight as the show needs them to be in the moment. If you pause and audit the rules, at least one big swing depends on opponents behaving exactly as predicted, Death Note-style, and strict logic-puzzle fans will feel the seams.
