Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles Review, two lives, one crowded season

Here's my read: Seirei Gensouki is a better show than its reputation whenever it stands still, and a worse one whenever it moves, which is a problem, because it never stops moving. This 2021 fantasy gives its hero a genuinely interesting burden: memories of a modern life awakening inside a slum orphan in a rigid, class-stratified world, two selves negotiating one body. The early episodes mine that friction well. Being lowborn with highborn knowledge is a real predicament, and the show's drama beats, resentment from above, suspicion from below, land with actual weight.

The action holds up its end too. Fights are brief but legible, staged so you can track who's winning and why, and the spirit-arts power system stays consistent enough that escalation feels like consequence rather than convenience. Threaded through it is a romantic undercurrent handled with more sincerity than the genre usually bothers with.

But here's the honest caveat, and it's the whole ballgame: twelve episodes cover far too much ground. Arcs that deserve four episodes get one and a half; supporting characters are introduced, endeared, and shelved at a pace that turns emotional beats into bullet points.
