DAN DA DAN Review — A Love Story Disguised as a Ghost-Versus-Alien Brawl

It starts with an argument, not a monster. Momo swears ghosts are real and aliens are nonsense; Okarun insists on the exact opposite. It's the kind of petty, defensive squabble only two kids who desperately want a friend would keep going — and the show knows it. When they dare each other to visit a haunted tunnel and a UFO hotspot to settle the score, both of them turn out to be catastrophically right, and the series takes off like a bottle rocket.

What makes DAN DA DAN special isn't the paranormal free-for-all, though the action animation is genuinely dazzling — fluid, rubbery, gleefully ugly when it wants to be. It's that every set piece doubles as a step in Momo and Okarun's relationship. She's brash and secretly tender; he's meek and secretly brave; the show keeps finding small, precise gestures — a nickname, a returned glance, a promise kept mid-crisis — that land harder than any punch. Adolescence is the actual battleground here, and the writing treats embarrassment and longing as seriously as any curse.

The one real knock: the velocity. At twelve episodes the series moves so fast that some quieter emotional beats get trampled before they can breathe, and viewers allergic to tonal whiplash will feel jerked around.
