The Seven Deadly Sins Review — Big Swings, Loose Grip
A fugitive princess, a legendary knight running an inn with a talking pig, and a kingdom-reclamation quest that favors fun over rigor.

A brisk, likable fantasy adventure that entertains broadly but never tightens its own rules.

A princess in armor collapses through the door of a roadside tavern, hunted by the very knights sworn to protect her kingdom. The innkeeper who catches her — a cheerful kid with no visible sword and a talking pig for staff — turns out to be Meliodas, captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, the legendary warriors framed for treason years ago. It's a terrific cold open, and the 2014 series rides that fairy-tale-outlaw energy hard: gather the scattered Sins, expose the Holy Knights' coup, take the kingdom back.
As worldbuilding, though, the foundation is sandier than the premise deserves. Power in this setting is vibes-scaled: what a character can do expands or contracts to fit the scene, and because limits are never firmly established, victories carry less weight than they should. The quest structure papers over this well — each recruited Sin brings a new region, a new grudge, and a new flavor of fight — and the show's momentum across 24 episodes is genuinely admirable.
The specific caveat I'd flag: the recurring ecchi gags, mostly at Elizabeth's expense, repeatedly puncture scenes that are trying to establish real menace, and the tonal whiplash costs the villains their teeth. Come for breezy adventure, not systemic fantasy. All 24 episodes stream free here.
